Membership of the Centre

CMS-NAU is a research, teaching and advocacy Centre based at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. Its membership is open to scholars as well as state and non-state actors in the field of migration from any part of the world. Scholars, policy makers and members of civil society involved in migration studies, migration management and migration governance are invited to the membership of the Centre. Membership of the Centre is essentially an invitation to participate in the research and advocacy mandates of the Centre. Those admitted to membership shall be available for allocation into clusters for the purposes of research and advocacy. The categories and criteria for membership are presented below:

FELLOWS
Requirements:

  1. PhD
  2. Working in an Academic or Research Institution
  3. Significant/Currency of Publication in the area of Migration
  4. Proven research interest in one of the CMS-NAU thematic areas

ASSOCIATES
Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree
  2. Professional/Actor in the field of migration (Policy, Governance, Implementation)
  3. Proven interest in one of the CMS-NAU thematic areas

RESEARCH MEMBERS
Requirements:

  1. PhD
  2. Working in an academic or research institution
  3. Evidence of active interest in research
  4. Research interest in one of the CMS-NAU thematic areas

JUNIOR MEMBERS
Requirements:

  1. Master’s Degree
  2. Working in an academic or research institution
  3. Or a student currently enrolled in master’s or doctoral programme
  4. Research interest in one of the CMS-NAU thematic areas

HONORARY FELLOWS

Individuals who have made significant contribution to the development of CMS-NAU or to the issue of migration generally may be considered by the Board upon nomination by a Fellow, an Associate or a Research Member for honorary fellowship of the Centre.

BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP

Members of the Centre are entitled to a number of benefits and privileges. Members shall be included in the mailing list of the Centre for the first hand dissemination of migration news in Nigeria and across the world. Members shall be invited to the programmes and activities of the Centre. Members shall be invited to the research projects of the Centre according to the category of membership and thematic areas of research involvement. Fellows, Research Members and Junior Members shall be grouped into Research Clusters according their choice research thematic areas. Members shall benefit from the periodic retreat, workshops and training programmes of the Centre. The research projects of the Centre shall be undertaken by the research clusters.
