COVID-19 and Irregular Migrants: Exposition on the Experiences of Sub-Saharan-African Irregular Migrants Pre, During and Post Covid-19 in North Africa, Asia and Europe
Abstract
The corona virus came without warning. Measures were adopted to slow its spread: social distancing, lock downs, wearing of PPEs, maintaining a good hygiene etc. Irregular migrants are hit by these. I authored a book, Last Declaration that dissects the experiences of Nigerian migrants in Malaysia. As a migration activist, I studied the impact of Covid-19 on irregular African migrants around the world. Prior to covid-19, migrants entering Europe through the Mediterranean Sea did menial jobs in Tripoli before crossing. With Covid-19, there was no crossing to Europe, no jobs in Tripoli and were assaulted by the locals.
